I create artworks and installations that balance the use of technological, immaterial data with physical tangible artifacts. I embrace the use of technology in my work, but I continue to be suspicious of its social implications. Using technology to create an environment that highlights the experience of living in an analog world and inhabiting our physical bodies feels more and more like a survival strategy than a passing fetish. I make tangible things, often hand-woven length of cloth, which embody highly aestheticized and often fictitious representations of immaterial data and information. I am concerned less with truthful interpretations of data streams as much as I am with a proposing an intimate and grounding experience with the resulting objects. I mine the everyday for source material. I draw on both my everyday interactions with digital technology and the very, very analog experience of being alive. And I try to have fun in the process. |
